For the past two years I have been blessed to work with the Montana community to provide primary care and adjunctive oncology care in the greater Billings area. An enlightening aspect of this 2-year residency has been developing relationships with the healthcare community in Billings through preceptorships with multiple specialists. This has shown me that many providers are unfamiliar with the ethics, efficacy and educational standards of NDs; it has been a wonderful opportunity to educate.
I am applying for the position of Secretary in order to be part of the movement to educate the legislature, patients, the public and other medical providers about the incredible value of naturopathic and integrative care. I am currently a member of the Montana Cancer Coalition (MTCC) Treatment and Research Committee. This role has connected me with pharmacists, The DJJS and IHS, nurse navigators and administrators who are also focused on education regarding the full range of oncology resources in the state. Being part of this committee means NDs are included in the MTCC provider search services.
I have a strong desire to represent our memberships’ needs as voiced through surveys, comments and at our meetings. We are a diverse group and it is challenging to gather as a cohesive force. Thanks to the promotion of Non-Violent Communication as practiced at YNC as well as in former roles as a coach, a team manager, child support case manager and teacher I have experience bringing people together for the benefit of the whole.
In closing, I support the philosophy of ‘democracy of the intellect” in which, when presented with compelling information, viewpoints can develop more richly as long as we are open to that development. I urge you to elect me, then help me deepen my understanding of your needs so I can help strengthen our profession.
